Reggie Wilson/Fist & Heel Performance Group

An Evening of Selected Works

Sun | July 28 | 7:30PM
$25 / $18 / $12 (Adults/Seniors/Students)
Schaeffer Theatre

ONE NIGHT ONLY! A selection of Fist and Heel Performance Group works which include the riveting solo INTRODUCTION a very personal recount performed by Reggie Wilson, about his experience of the Spiritual Baptists in Trinidad and Tobago; a solo from the provocative full-evening work CITIZEN; and the duet. Wilson draws from the cultures of Africans in the Americas and combines them with post-modern elements and his own personal movement style to create what he often calls “post-African/Neo-Hoodoo Modern dances.”

Reggie Wilson founded his company, Reggie Wilson/Fist & Heel Performance Group, in 1989. His critically acclaimed work CITIZEN, premiered 2016. Most recently, Wilson was curator of Danspace Project’s Dancing Platform Praying Grounds: Blackness, Churches, and Downtown Dance (Platform 2018) and created the commissioned work “…they stood shaking while others began to shout” specifically for the space at St. Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery. His newest work is titled POWER.

“For Wilson and his fellow artists, there is no division or break in the synchronized rhythms or angular shapes the body is capable of releasing across vast time periods and continents.” Chicago Tribune
