The Anatomy of Gesture

Our approach draws from the belief that creativity involves the coupling of perception, action and imagination.  We believe understanding and communication, as human beings and performers, derives from our failures and successes in empathizing with others.  In this workshop we explore creating, shaping and connecting emergent gestures in the process of making dance. We investigate how gestures unfold in time and learn to appreciate the space between our actions which create syntax, rhythm and phrasing.  We work with improvisation and performance as both the creative ground for making dance and the object of the making.
