Postmodern and Contemporary Technique 3
Explore a rich movement practice rooted in postmodern dance and influenced by classical modern, jazz, Hip Hop, ballet, improvisation, and everyday movement. Drawing from the instructor’s experience with David Dorfman Dance and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, this class emphasizes individuality, community, and embodied exploration.
Beginning with introductions to cultivate trust and build community, dancers will move through Bartenieff-inspired floor work and Pilates exercises to ease into movement. Standing exercises integrate spinal articulation, alignment, balance, and muscular efficiency, while across-the-floor work combines improvisational scores, rigorous locomotion, inversions, and lofting. This class culminates in phrase work that investigates momentum, spatial control, and sensation- or shape-based approaches. Personal findings are encouraged to be shared to expedite learning within our community. Individualism is honored and upheld even as profound body awareness and ability to replicate outside material is practiced. Enjoyment and fun are key to learning!
