Jazz Fusion

Duane Lee Holland

This course introduces the principles and practices of Modern, Jazz, and Hip-Hop dance, as key fundamentals to the development of Contemporary movement. It is the culmination of the Africanist aesthetic (a cool, smooth full-bodied interpretation of musical composition) with euro-centric forms that manifest Contemporary movement vernacular. With the concept of improvisation, we will investigate the infinite possibilities of Contemporary movement composition. Through these movement experiences, students will develop their technical dance skills; learn basic concepts of dance design, and further their understanding and cultivation of the body as an instrument of expression. .
