Improvisation

Gesel Mason

Whether experimenting with physical and emotional states or freestyling in a club style cypher, improvisation offers an immediate exploration of the essence of motion and the discovery of spontaneous creativity and movement invention. This course will embrace an experiential approach that encompasses writing, storytelling, social activism, sensation and touch, site specific work, deep listening, and rigorous play. Working individually and in partnership with others, many different modalities and cultural approaches to accessing an original movement vocabulary will be investigated. This course considers improvisation as a form of exploration, technical training, choreographic tool, performance form, and life practice.
