Gaga/dancers Class and Movement Exploration

Maree ReMalia

This class is open to students from beginner to advanced, ages 16+. Each class begins with the Gaga movement language, which originated from the belief in the healing, dynamic, ever-changing power of movement. Choreographer Ohad Naharin continues to develop Gaga to provide a framework for discovering and strengthening the body and adding flexibility, stamina, agility, and efficiency. While class instructions are often imbued with rich imagery that stimulates the imagination, the layering of information builds into a multisensory, physically challenging experience. The exploration of form, speed, and effort is accompanied by the investigation of soft and thick textures, delicacy, understatement, and exaggeration. Classes are conducted without mirrors and observers are not permitted. To support movement research, following Gaga, students are guided through improvisational explorations or reflective writing and discussion. ReMalia’s approach is playful and inquisitive with a focus on encouraging self-discovery and building an inclusive class community.
