Femenine // KMC Repertory Workshop

Kyle Marshall

Rooted in Kyle Marshall Choreography’s belief of the body as a container of history, ignitor of social reform and a site of celebration, students will learn and perform material from our current production, Femenine. The cornerstone of our Julius Eastman Trilogy, Femenine celebrates joy, queer community, the divine feminine and the life and legacy of Black, gay minimalist composer Julius Eastman. Over the course of 5 days, students will sample phrase material, solo compositional prompts and group improvisational structures from the dance, all set to a joyfully musical score. Prioritizing an open, inclusive spirit, students will build skills in phrase retention, movement manipulation, softness, musicality and group power. The final presentation at the end of the workshop will combine learned material in a new, unique structure embracing rigor, playfulness and performative agency.
