Ballez Repertory Intensive
Katy Pyle will teach repertory from past Ballez productions (Firebird, Sleeping Beauty & the Beast, Giselle of Loneliness) to participants of all identities who are interested in exploring queer embodiment. Ballez playfully disrupts classical ballet’s binary-gendered archetypes (and their accompanying 18th century cis-white-hetero-patriarchal expectations) with the lived experiences of queer dancers. Repertory will include practice working as a queer corps, performing one’s own gender complexity with authenticity, and partnering which draws from Pyle’s years of study of non-hierarchical, physics based partnering techniques.
