About Justin

Justin Moriarty, MFA lighting designer, playwright, poet, educator, and is the Technical Director of the Theater and Dance Department at Bates College. He recently completed the MFA program at Goddard College in Interdisciplinary Arts with a concentration in Performance creation. One of the recent plays he wrote, The Rounds, was produced at the 2018 Dream Up Festival at the Theater of the New City in Manhattan, NYC. His lighting design credits include Sara Juli, Annie Kloppenberg, Laura Peterson, The Wonder Twins, Robin Sanders, Headlong Dance Theater, A Company of Girls, and TEDxDirigo. Justin’s lighting designs have been seen at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the O’Shaughnessy, the Flynn, the Yard, Portland Players, Space Gallery, Portland Stage, St Lawrence Arts, Mayo Street Arts, Bates Dance Festival, Colby, and Bowdoin College. Justin is currently a member of the IATSE, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 114. He has worked for Portland Ovations as their production manager. In 2010, Justin founded Summer Peace and Social Justice Camp, where he spends his summers teaching Theater for Social Change to children beginning at the age of 6.
