Flying Low & Passing Through

Lily Kind

Flying Low & Passing Through are the floorwork technique and collective improvisation methods of David Zambrano. These methods were first developed by Zambrano in the 80s and have been expanded upon by a global community. They are highly physical, fast-moving dance modes that build mental, physical, and emotional stamina.

Flying Low uses the metaphor of spirals, fractals, and interconnectedness to build agility and speed in and out of the floor, including moving upside-down and backwards was part of a group. No Western or classical training is necessary; the only prerequisite physical skills are walking, running, and squatting.

Passing Through builds towards high energy, musical, leaderless group improvisation for performance. Using the same principals of Flying Low, dancers learn to see and feel pathways in the room, including the use of partnering. As a group advances, other dance training can be integrated.

Class is assisted by Lily’s longtime collaborator Chelsea Murphy. Chelsea is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and EMDR therapist with 20 years of professional dance experience.
