Professional Training Program

July 17 - August 8

Dance Educator Fellowship

The Dance Educator Fellowship is a three-week immersion experience in the Festival's Professional Training Program that offers practicing high school dance educators a chance to refresh and renew their passion for teaching and gain valuable new insights and information to enhance their classroom and creative work.

The Festival offers full fellowships (includes tuition, housing & meals) to experienced dance educators who are currently teaching dance full-time in grades 9-12. Fellows must enroll full-time (4 courses).  Applicants in their first five years of teaching are required to register for the Teacher’s Toolkit class (more experienced teachers may waive this requirement or may take the course as a refresher).

To Apply

Applicants must submit the required Professional Training Program application form along with a resume of recent related work experience and a one-page letter articulating your interest in dance education and how this fellowship will support your goals.  All application materials must

be received by Friday, March 26.

Comments from 2009 Fellows:

“I came away from the festival feeling like I have a new base of support from the larger dance community. Dancing at Bates influenced the way I think about movement, how I perform, and how I will teach.”

"Meeting so many teachers and dancers from across the country and sharing information was one of the best things I could have asked for at this point in my career. I now have a larger community of resources to tap when I need advice. BDF is a very special place that allows all who love dance, a chance to live and experience a magical three weeks."

“Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. Not only have I come alive again as a dancers and performer, but my life has been forever impacted as a dance teacher.”
