The Festival’s internship/apprenticeship program offers qualified individuals an opportunity to work side-by-side with the Festival's professional staff. Interns/apprentices will receive on-the-job training in technical production, videography, arts administration or dance education, while gaining valuable contacts and in-depth knowledge of contemporary dance. Housing, meals and complimentary tickets to performances are provided. Dance education, administration interns and stagecraft apprentices may register for up to two classes a day. Technical Production and Video interns receive a $300 stipend (upon submission of receipts) to assist with travel.
Technical Production/Stagecraft Apprenticeships
The Technical Production Internship is intended for young designers with a strong interest in dance production and lighting. In addition to the duties listed below, interns will assist in designing the Different Voices concert. The Stagecraft Apprenticeship is designed for dancers who are equally interested and experienced with technical production. Apprentices enjoy two morning classes during the Professional Training Program and work with the production team in the afternoons.
Interns/apprentices work closely with Production Manager, Carrie Cox, Lighting Supervisor, Gregory Catellier, and visiting artists' production staff and design team members as part of the crew for the Festival’s public performance series of 12 concerts. Interns/apprentices hang, focus and operate lights, run sound, wardrobe and maintain the theatre. Interns/apprentices also participate in ongoing lighting seminars. All applicants must have prior experience and a strong interest in dance production. Production Interns and Stagecraft Apprentices must be on campus July 2-August 10. Two intern and four apprentice positions are available.
Videography
Intern works directly with the dance videographers, Peter Richards and Shawn Hove, recording all performances and gaining experience in all facets of archival documentation. The focus of the internship is on shooting techniques, concepts of documentation, proper titling, labeling and logging of material, use of non-linear editing programs, and the necessary editorial point of view for creation of an in-depth project. Candidates should have some experience with digital video, as well as experience in documenting dance. Interns must be on campus July 7-August 10. Two positions is available.
Administration
Interns work closely with the Festival director, Assistant Director/Registrar, Box Office Manager and the faculty to support the day-to-day activities of the Festival. The intern assists with general office management (phone, fax, copying, data entry); creation and preparation of materials for students, artists, outreach and public events; program scheduling and logistics; and sales. Applicants must have good computer, organizational, verbal and written skills. Interns must be on campus June 20-August 10. Three positions are available.
Dance Education
This internship is geared to students of dance, music and visual art currently majoring in arts education and preparing to teach K-12. Interns work side-by-side with the dance and music faculty of the Festival's Youth Arts Program (YAP). YAP runs concurrently with the three-week training program and provides a diverse group of 70 local youth ages 6-17 with daily dance, music and visual art classes. Interns provide classroom support for the faculty of six, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and participate in daily staff evaluation and planning meetings. Applicants must document previous experience working with youth, an ability to work as part of a team, and good organizational and verbal skills. Interns must be on campus July 17-August 8. Four positions are available.
