Street Styles

Yvonne Hernandez

The hybridization found in the world of dance today highly influences the styles and techniques found in current day Hip Hop. Hip hop, identified by social dances in varied cultures of the past and present, is grounded in percussive rhythms with strong, energetic, and edgy movement. Each class begins with a thorough warm up and stretch, followed by across the floor combinations and foundational drills to develop stamina and strength. Class culminates with new school/commercial choreography which incorporates old school vocabulary, elements of House, Breaking/Floorwork, Freestyle & Cyphers, among other foundational elements. Students will be encouraged to identify and investigate their movement style while honoring the history of Hip Hop and exploring the Hip Hop aesthetic in greater depth.
