Gaga

Maree ReMalia

Classes begin with the Gaga movement language. Gaga originated from the belief in the healing, dynamic, ever-changing power of movement. Choreographer, Ohad Naharin, developed Gaga over the course of many years and it is now applied in the daily practice of Israel’s Batsheva Dance Company. It provides a framework for discovering and strengthening your body and adding flexibility, stamina, and agility while lightening the senses and imagination. Gaga is open to students ages 16+. Classes are conducted without mirrors and observers are not permitted. On select days, following Gaga, students are guided through improvisational explorations or reflective writing and discussion. Improvisational explorations are drawn from methods in dance and theater and aim to cultivate practices of being a viewer and mover, accessing liberation and nuance through the moving body, and considering composition. Writing and discussion are used as tools to enrich the students movement research. ReMalia’s approach is playful and inquisitive with a focus on encouraging self discovery and building an inclusive class community.
